Museum "Day Of" Price Increases

Hi! At the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, we are looking at potentially implementing "day of" price increases in 2024 and we are wondering how it's going for folks who are already doing this.

  • Have you seen any increase in pre-purchased tickets?
  • Do you advertise that tickets are cheaper if pre-purchased?
  • How do you report on the "day of" price increases?
  • What is your organization type?

Thanks!

  • Hi Angela,

We increase ticket prices for some of our experiences for on the day sales. To date we've done this for exhibitions at the National Museum of Scotland and for entrance to the National Museum of Flight. Some answers to your questions below:

    • I do think that we have seen an increase in pre-purchased tickets however we've not been doing it long enough to see whether this is having a long lasting effect. For the most recent exhibition, we had a number of sold out days so pre-booking became necessary particularly at weekends. We're doing advanced and on the day pricing for our forthcoming fashion exhibition so that'll be a good test.
    • We tell visitors to book in advance to save money and we list our tickets with both prices (you can see this here: https://www.nms.ac.uk/exhibitions-events/exhibitions/national-museum-of-scotland/beyond-the-little-black-dress/)
    • For reporting, at the moment we report on the average days in advance visitors book and the % of visitors that book on the day. We've only had Tessitura for six months though so I'm sure there are more interesting ways we could report on this data
    • We are a museum group comprising of four sites. The National Museum of Scotland is a free museum in the centre of Edinburgh with paid exhibitions and events, the National Museum of Flight is a former WWII airfield with paid admission, The National Museum of Rural Life is a museum and working farm with paid admission and The National War Museum is a military museum based within Edinburgh Castle and is free with Castle admission (Castle not run by us).

    I hope that's helpful!
