Uptick in scalping and chargebacks

Hello everyone,

Our theater has been struggling with scalping and credit card chargebacks lately. It's becoming a major problem for us, and we're looking for ways to combat it.

One thing we're considering is switching to Tessitura Merchant services because our current merchant doesn't offer 3D secure. We've heard that 3D secure can be a useful tool in preventing scalping and chargebacks, but we're wondering if anyone else has tried it and had success with it?

Additionally, we're planning on delaying the print of our home ticket delivery to 24 hours before the performance. We hope that this will make it more difficult for scalpers to buy up tickets and then resell them on third party sites.

Also, for organizations that void/invalidate scalped tickets, how do you manage the customer service experience?

But we know that scalping is a persistent problem in the entertainment industry, and we'd love to hear from other organizations about how they've successfully fought against it. What strategies have you employed to prevent scalping and credit card chargebacks? Have you found any tools or services to be especially helpful?

    This is indeed becoming more of a problem in the industries that we serve.  If you haven't read this recent blog post by Nic Boling, our VP of Information Technology and Security, I would highly recommend it.  3DS, which has been used in Europe for some time, is one of the ways to combat this and it's becoming more widely adopted in the US.  Tessitura Merchant Services offers embedded 3DS as well as a whole suite of fraud controls which can help in this area.
