Limit how many times a Constituent can use a Promo Code

Hi all,

Is there a way to limit how many times a certain constituent can use a promo code? With pricing rules, I know how to limit how many times the rule triggers on an order and over all. But I want to allow Joe Smith to use a promo code 4 times but no more than that.

The Exclusion list is the closest I've come to this, but Joe Smith is able to use the promo code 4 times, so I don't want to put him on the exclusion list the first time he uses the code because it'll block him from using it 3 more times.

Thanks for your tips,

Sara.

  • Hi Sara,

There are a few ways to accomplish this. The first is using a pricing rule tied to an exclusion list which can prevent a constituent account from using a promo code again.

Another option using pricing rules is tie the source code to the pricing rule so that it only fires when the promo code is entered.  The important step for limiting this to only one seat is to set the "Apply the rule to a maximum of ____ seats" to 1.

We also have a customization that can be installed that allows you to generate random, one time use promo codes in bulk. Used promo codes are then inactivated by a scheduled job that runs regularly. If you are interested in this customization, please open a
support ticket and we can provide an estimate and additional information.

Full details of options can be found in this knowledge base article: https://hello.tessituranetwork.com/knowledgeBase/9526692

    Thank you,

  • Hi Melissa,

Thanks for these tips. My tricky bit here is that I need the aforementioned Joe to be able to use the promo code up to 4 times, but no more than that. Not just a standard one-time-use. Only after Joe has used the promo 4 times do I want him to be added to my exclusion list. Is there a criterion in Lists that counts how many orders a constituent has that are tied to a certain source code?
