Subscription Trends Post-Pandemic

Greetings All!

I am doing a little research in preparation for a possible ticket restructuring and was hoping to dip into the Tessitura brain trust to make some assumptions/predictions.

During the pandemic, we switched from a subscription model, but during when the pandemic hit, we switched to a "Membership" model granting early booking access and discount tickets but without requiring up-front performance payment. This was in response to the increased desire among ticket buyers for increased flexibility. We are considering returning to a subscription model for next season. For those of you who have maintained this model, what kind of bounce-back have you seen after the pandemic? Are you seeing numbers return to what they were before the pandemic or do your constituents still seem hesitant to make the commitment to a full subscription?

Any trends or information you are noticing and willing to share would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

  • Last season we only had a two-show fixed season. And were just slowly coming out the pandemic restrictions. It held our season numbers steady that I could see. This current season we started off with our fixed 4 show season. Then about a month into renewals we added a Flex 2 or 3 and that jumped our season numbers up. There could be a few factors as why but can't be for certain on if that was the case.  We'll still stick to the fixed seats format for 23-24 but would be interesting to see how other organizations do with changing the format. Flex seasons seem what works better for folks. As I feel the fixed season package could be a thing of the past come 5-10 years from now.
