Question for all my Museum Colleagues re: Timed Admission

Hello to all my museum folks

During the pandemic, we switched to timed admissions here at the CMHR. It has worked well for us, but with things starting to return to somewhat “normal” here we are starting to really think towards spring.

My questions to you are these:

  • If you switched to timed from just good old GA, do you plan to switch back, and when?
  • If you switched, and are keeping timed for good…why?

I come from 17 years using Tessitura in performing arts settings, so the museum model is so new to me. I am just looking for any words of wisdom. Goodness knows there’s always a lot here.

Thanks All!

  • Hi Jen,

We have switched back to GA but kept our Timed Admission. We used a Hold Code to block the seats for the Timed Admission and only have General Admission available. This allows us to be able to "turn it back on" if we ever go back to a Timed Admission. Ever since we switched back to GA we have not gone back to Timed Admission but it is nice to be able to just have it already built out. Of course if we do go back to Timed Admission when tickets are already booked for the performance then we most likely will have to reach out to each guest and let them know and go in order by order to rebook the ticket.

    Hope this helps a bit!

Thanks Alex. I think that will be our approach as well. We have the same build as you. We have a GA built in to our timed facility as well.
