BOGO.. but also BOG2

Hi All,

We are building a children's festival, and would like to offer a BOGO deal for parents to bring their children under 14 for free. Initially it was imagined as a BOG2, buy one regular priced ticket and receive two child comp tickets. The idea being that a family of 4 could attend and only have to pay for 2 adult tickets. However, we need to extend this offer to single families as well, so that when a single parent buys a ticket, they get one comp too.

I have tried every recipe in the book, but have started going in circles. Can I apply the two different pricing rules to work consecutively based on the number of tickets selected?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Many thanks,

Regan N

  • We did something similar in the past but it is complicated, I have a couple of questions that might help which direction to go in.  Can the single parent bring two children for free?  Or is it always one paid adult ticket for every free child ticket?  I think in order to have multiple pricing rules based on numbers of tickets you actually need a seat volume rule but that won't get you the buy one, get one.  We actually set ours up so that a single adult could get two child's tickets - which addressed the issue although not entirely. I'd be happy to talk more about how we set it up, if this helps at all.  Elizabeth Carlock

Children
  • Hi Elizabeth,

    Thank you for replying.

Yes! A single parent can bring up to two children. We were thinking of creating a pricing rule for every possible situation, but had the realization that sometimes 4 people might intend to be 3 adults and one kid, or 5 people might be 2 adults a 3 kids, so we cannot know the adults to kid ratio per group. Just by the number of tickets ordered.

Hopefully you have some magic up your sleeve!

  • Sadly I don't have any magic up my sleeve.  And sorry for the delay in responding.  In our scenario we ended up changing the price type to child (but with zero dollar value), which we hold at the Box Office pending visual verification so if two adults attempted to attend, we changed the price at the window and the adult paid the difference.  But it is hard to find the right set up when a rule is to perform two different actions.  We used only one BOGO which for every three full priced tickets, two would switch to that child price type.  But it was also controlled by a source code so it was only given to people with the code.
