We have 3 EMV Card Readers onsite and they all have a habit of becoming unresponsive - i.e. the staff member will put an order into Tessitura, click on the 'Credit Card' button, and Tessitura will say 'Connecting to Card Reader' but the EMV machine will stay on its home screen until the transaction times out and the error message 'Socket{xxx...xxx} timed out waiting for response' will appear in Tessitura. The guest services staff member then has to unplug the card reader and plug it back in, let it restart completely (which takes several minutes), and can then process payments normally.
Each card reader is used somewhat differently: the machine in the membership office is rarely touched but when it is used the payments are processed in quick succession, the POS in the visitor center is conveniently located and therefore used the most, and the card reader at our back entrance is used inconsistently but jostled considerably with each payment because it is placed awkwardly in a window. It's this machine at the back entrance that gives us the most problems. We're not sure whether this is due to its inconsistent use or how frequently the cables are jostled.
Our IT team has checked the cable connection and says it seems fine but we're getting the station a new ethernet cable and a mount just to be safe.
The question of inconsistent use poses a larger challenge. Some of our team members believe it has to do with being logged out of Citrix as the issues often occur first thing in the morning, when you switch users, and when you haven't processed any orders in Tessitura for more than 45 minutes.
Do any other users experience this issue? Have you found any effective, short-term coping mechanisms or long-term solutions?
Our experience is the same as Kathleen here. As the IT/Tessitura guru here, I have just made sure that all of the Box Office supervisors know how to restart the TriPOS service and check a few things in the device manager settings. But yeah, payment processors are annoying, there is no question about that.
Best of luck!
