Selling Lawn Seating Pods

Hello,

We are in the midst of planning for some outdoor concerts at a venue that has a lawn. Typically sold as general admission, we recognize we will need to sell this area as demarcated seating pods this year. If anyone out there has tackled and cracked this nut in the past year, I would love to hear how you set up and sold these pods. Did you sell by pod or sell individual seats within the pod? How did you price it - per pod or per seat? What maps did you need to create? Were pods reserved or sold as general admission?

Many thanks,

Michelle Lewandowski

  • Hey Michelle,

I did something like this at MN Opera, we sold the pods in groups of 4 or 8. I wrote some javascript that made the drop downs on TNEW for those sections only have a 4 or 8 and it would automatically book 4 or 8 seats in the GA map. We then told patrons they could put up to four people in each pod on the grass.

  • Thanks Gregory, we have a custom site and are not on TNEW, but we could probably do something similar. What did your GA map look like on the back end? Was it sold by seat or by pod? I have seen some orgs just have guests reserve one pod for up to 2 or 4 people, and they receive one ticket for the pod, but then I have concerns about having just one ticket for the entire group which just seems tricky for those who aren't arriving together. How did you price it or were these free concerts?
