Hi there!
We are planning a membership program where patrons would be able to purchase two tickets at a discounted rate per event, and then after that would need to purchase regularly price tickets. We are using the latest version of Tess and TNEW.
Currently our membership is set up so that anyone with a certain level of constituency will acquire a rank that will push them into a mode of sale that will make members' price type available to them when checking out. We also have a pricing rule so that if they put a membership in their cart alongside the ticket the members' priced ticket will also be available to them. However, we are only selling class registrations right now, so people buying a ton of tickets is out of the question and we have limited the amount of registrations (whether members or standard) per checkout to one ticket using TNEW.Once we are selling in-person performances, we hope to allow them to buy as many tickets as they'd like, but limit the number of members tickets. Has anyone found a workaround with this? Do we need to restructure the way that we make members' tickets available to our members? Even so, would we able to enforce these ticket limits on a per performance level?
Thank you!
Hi Robert,
Some organizations have tried to approximate this behavior using pricing rules (such as a rule that switches a standard ticket to a member ticket as long as the member qualifies via a list, attribute or ranking). Using all standard tools, this is a bit imperfect because it could allow a member to get extra member tickets if the criteria that determine their eligibility (like a list or an attribute) is not refreshed quickly. Using some customization (like a SQL update to a ranking procedure) it can be more accurate, but less maintainable. I'm sure community members will chime in if they have experiences to share.
If it helps in your planning, this feature is being added in version 16. It's called Benefits, and you can check out our membership benefits documentation for the details. You might decide that an approximated solution, or a custom solution with some maintenance, is a fair trade-off for now knowing what is coming down the road.
