Gift Vouchers - Expiry & Extensions During Shutdown

Hi all you wonderful people,

First time posting so please go easy on me!

With our performance spaces closed down during this pandemic we've been receiving a fair amount of patron questions around what'd going to happen with their Gift Vouchers that are due to expire.

Since March I've personally stopped our GV expiry process, as I feel like it's not really fair to expire patron's GV's when there's nothing they can actually attend!

So in essence we're already choosing to extend their GV's to help support them and retain that patronage for future events.
But moving forward I'd ideally like to have a plan of attack to help support all patrons that will be affected by this. And of course, we will eventually want to restart the expiry process.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has run into this as well?

I'd love to hear ideas from others around how they plan to handle their expiring GV's, whether that's just business as usual or renewing all affected patrons GV's or even something totally out of left field!

It doesn't have to be a fully realised process either, thoughts and theories are very welcome!

Thank you in advance,

Scott.

  • Hi Scott

This is an awesome idea, and it would be great to establish some consistency in how we all approach this. As it’s uncertain how long it will go for nationally and internationally, perhaps an extension of 12 months would be reasonable and demonstrate good will? What are your thoughts?

    Cheers, Vanessa

Hi Vanessa! Thanks for the reply :)

I was indeed thinking of extension as the easiest solution. Either a 12 month extension as you'd suggested. Or potentially opening them up to the new 3 year expiry standard that began in Nov last year (for those of us in Aus).

It would be great to brainstorm how that would be managed though.

Something pretty simple could be just holding off on running the expiry utility for another 12 months (or however long). Then contacting the patrons with GV's due to expire to let them know, of course that might not be straightforward since the purchaser might not be the holder of the voucher. Which could be a bit of a sensitive topic of conversation!

    Thanks again,

    Scott.
