PACs - Performance Setup Advice?

Hello! We're in the midst of our Tessitura implementation, and are thinking through the performance setup. We are a performing arts center with primarily one-off dates and short runs, so wondering how we can best utilize Titles/Productions/Production Seasons, and possibly Season as well -  not only for ease of use and show build, but for analytics and marketing purposes (particularly by genre).

Would any other PACs be willing to share your setup? Thanks in advance! :)

  • We just went live this season so I'll share what we have in place.  We use Titles for all of the different "units" that have performances.  Ex.  Ferguson Presents, University Events, Promoters, Valet, Resident companies.  We use productions to separate the seasons.  Ex.  19-20, 20-21 .  Production Seasons are the actual performances and for Performances we have the individual performance dates/times.

  • Thank you! This is exactly the setup we've been discussing. Just wondering how to get genres in there - whether to use Season, or keywords - and if there's one way that's better than another for analytics and list pulling.

Our other scenario is to use Productions as genres, i.e. 19-20 Comedy.

  • Hey! I'd personally go with using keywords for your genres. You can set them up as interests for you patrons, and it allows you to do some fun targeted marketing efforts that way. It will also help your ticket sales team easily upsell to patrons who have those interest types (it changes performance text color in the calendar screen when choosing what to sell).

At this point, it will definitely be easier to pull keywords via list than in analytics.  If you are open to changing up your performance codes, you could also build genres into the code, which you would be able to track in analytics relatively easily.  I.E. SC0102EC (C being for comedy), SC0102MT (musical theatre), SC0102SS (singer songwriter), etc.

I don't have any real reason to not use productions as genres.  It might work really well for reporting, but I personally think keywords have more pros than using productions.  I do think a lot of it would depend on how big your organization is too.

Happy to chat if you  have any questions!
