VIP Package Ticket Setup

Hello

We are getting more and more requests to set up VIP packages as a ‘lift’ on the ticket price. So, we have begun to test out different ways to accomplish this in Tessitura but we are hitting some roadblocks along the way.

The most desirable way to set this up from our perspective is to build the VIP section as a zone and we then add a layer called ‘VIP Lift’ we enter the extra amount on the layer’s VIP Zone and disable the other zones on the layer.  We do this for all applicable price types (adult, presale etc.) In testing, it works great in the VIP zone but it won’t seat any other zone since we disabled the other zones on the VIP lift layer. This doesn’t totally make sense to us. We could re-enable the other zones on the VIP layer and leave them as ‘0’ but the issue we have is when we report on that layer it includes ticket counts for the non- VIP zones. We don’t love to supply promoters with reports where the ticket count isn’t accurate.

We have played around with VIP Price Type and VIP Zone but again we were running into a roadblock as we were not able to have the VIP layer with just the VIP Price Type. When we tried to remove the ‘Adult’ price type – which is our base price – it wouldn’t allow it. So again, we are in a situation of having to have an Adult price type enabled on the VIP Layer with a ‘0’ amount.

We did try a fee too - however, we ran into another roadblock as the web just shows the ticket price in the seat selection page and does not calculate in the fee until the seat has been added to the cart.  So - from a customer perspective it makes zero sense.

Has anyone figured out a better way to do this? We would love to hear what others are doing.

Thanks!
Karen

  • Karen,

Are you on TNEW or do you have a custom site?  Just curious, because we operate essentially 100% the way you outlined in the 3rd paragraph; we are TNEW, currently V 6.

    Our set-up is as follows:

    • We build our performances with our 19 standard price zones and 3 VIP price zones (yeah, I know, we have too many standard price zones).
      • All 3 VIP price zones by default have zero seats assigned to them.
      • A lot of the times the 3 VIP price zones are just disabled, or maybe only one or two of them are disabled.
      • Based upon the needs of the performance, we update those price zones via season maintenance to assign the requisite seats per price zone.
    • We build our performances with the standard ticket price layer, a facility fee layer and then the special VIP layer (as needed).  Ticket price is on all price types, facility fee on all non-comp price types, and the VIP layer is ONLY on the VIP price type (which is almost NEVER the default price type).
      • The VIP layer IS included on all price zones for the VIP price type, but the VIP price type is disabled in all non-VIP price zones.
    • This works to allow us to put the Ticket Price on one layer, the Facility Fee on another and the VIP Lift on the third.

We have had few to no issues with this set up.  I am not sure why you are not allowed to remove your base price on the VIP layer.  We have performances actively on sale where we have done just that.  I am not sure what Version of Tessitura you are on, but I bet it is 12.5+, and we have been doing this since then.

Here is a performance currently on sale where we have done just that:  https://secure.thecenterpresents.org/single/SYOS.aspx?p=8392

Click in the "Orchestra Front" section, and look at the blue seats to see the VIP pricing versus the rest which are normally priced.
