We offer a discount for patrons age 30 below (they have to sign up beforehand which assigns a constituency) that is good on the day of show only and we want to make it available online (using TNEW). I created a price type change pricing rule triggered by constituency, which works fine for the day of the show when they select Standard pricing. But it prohibits them from buying tickets to future dates at Standard price, which we don’t want.
Is there a way to make this work using pricing rules, or would it be better to set this up as an offer with an MOS change?
Hi Judy,
If you're changing the price type, could you set the price type start and end dates to be the day of the show? That can be done on each performance by going to Price Type Properties.
Best of luck!Sara
Thanks, Sara!
The price type being changed to is set to start and end the day of show, but I still get an error when I try to select tickets for future dates at Standard price. I assume because the rule dictates switching to a price type that isn't available for a future performance. Am I missing something else?
Have you tried doing a separate rule for each performance with the rule date being the day of the show? I know that could mean a lot of extra work, but it may help. Perhaps try it with a couple of performances in Test first to see if it works then replicate it in Live. At least there's copy functionality on Pricing Rules so all you'd need to change was the performance the rule is firing on.
I might suggest setting up your rule like you already have it, but only add the shows when they are eligible. So on the day of each show, make sure someone is assigned to go into the price rule and add that performance to the category section of the rule. It's an added manual step but IMO a checkbox is easier than building multiple rules or offers, and could become routine.
I had not tried that but it sounds like it will need to be done on an individual performance level. Too bad there's not a dynamic start/end date in pricing rules. Thanks for your insight, Sara!
Thank you, Anna - that's a good idea and should be easy enough to add to our morning tasks. I appreciate your help!
