Working with Add-on Events, pricing rules and pre-sales?

We have an upcoming rental that has two parts.  Part one is their performance and part two is the reception.  One of the benefits of attending the reception is the best seats in the performance.  So far, so good.  However now it gets interesting.  The group has donors who as part of their membership receive 6 complimentary tickets for the performance but only two entries to the reception but they want all six tickets to be seated together (and would like the patrons to be able to reserve these online.)  And they would like to give the members the opportunity to add-on additional reception tickets.  At this point it definitely sounds like two separate events, performance and reception with source codes and offer limits for the reception. But what am I overlooking?  In addition, they would also like a pre-sale opportunity on the reception which would then allow those buyers an opportunity to purchase performance tickets before the general public, in an effort to guarantee the best tickets for the patrons who purchase the reception.  I don't know how to have one event unlock a second event for sale or if this is even possible.  Is there some type of pricing rule that would allow this scenario to be a real thing? Online and not just through the Box Office? I'm open to creative ideas on how to make this happen.

Thanks in advance,

Elizabeth Carlock

  • Hi Elizabeth,
This is quite the scenario! It does sound like it would have to be two separate events - the performance and the reception. I would also maybe suggest using allocations to allocate performance seats, which would require a promo code and MOS shift in order for the person to be able to access them. The only way I can think of "unlocking" the reception, is to have a messaging rule trigger on the cart when someone buys a performance in one of those allocated seats or through the promo code. The message would be something like "you have unlocked the reception, click here to buy it" and the link would point directly to the reception performance. The only way to enforce a limit of 2 tickets to the reception, would be by using an offer, which isn't always ideal or foolproof. You might have to monitor those purchases.
I hope I understood your scenario correctly! This is where I would start with when it comes to building it. Feel free to reach out to me, if you'd like!
