Unaccompanied minor in the theater

Hello!

Our theater is interested in creating a policy for unaccompanied minors attending our shows. Currently, we have no policy in place and this puts added responsibility and stress onto our Front of House team. Does anyone else have a policy in place and/or any pushback/complaints they have received from patrons? Any input is much appreciated!

  • Sorry this is so delayed but just came across this. At my last job with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, we started posting this on our event page for every event, under Child Policy for that particular show (See below). Some shows had older recommendations (where I have bolded)but we always follow with the unbolded text. It at least covers our bases.

Age Recommendation:  Listed here. To help you make an informed decision on whether your show is appropriate for your child, we encourage you to seek additional information on each show you consider attending. Policies may vary per presenter. All children attending a performance must have a ticket. Tickets may not be purchased for children under the age of 3 years and such children will not be admitted. Any ticket for a child must be for a seat next to the seat occupied by the adult accompanying the child. Children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult. Children disturbing the enjoyment of other theater patrons may be removed from the venue at the discretion of the theater’s management. No refund will be given.

  • Hello Kari,

Thank you so much for your input! I'm going to check in with our Box Office and Marketing team to see if we can put something similar on our theater policy page of our website.
