Scanning Constituent IDs into Orders

Is anyone out there using printed constituent ID barcodes (i.e. on a membership card) to scan a constituent ID directly into an order screen to load that customer into the order? If so, any scanner recommendations? Am I correct in thinking you could use any old USB scanner, or does Nscan need to be involved?

Thanks!

  • I've experimented with this before, and it's definitely possible. The Owner field in Ticket Orders accepts the same scanner sentinel characters used elsewhere in the system, so you'd just need a device that you can configure to use those sentinels (or configure Tessitura to use the scanner's sentinels), and that does "keyboard emulation". N-Scan wouldn't apply here. The Motorola LS2208 is an old standby, but something that works better as a presentation scanner might make more sense in POS situation.
