Pricing rule for group rates

Hi all - I'm looking at putting up group sales online and would like to use a seat volume rule.  Problem I see is that we have different pricing for Adult and Child tickets at the general admission and group rates, and require a minimum ticket amount for group rates.  Is there a way to create a rule that respects the minimum ticket amount but apply a different discount or price type change based on the price type?  We're trying to avoid needing a source code for this - ie, a quick way to accommodate large parties online without a need for additional information from us.  Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions!

  • Hi David,

Depending on your discount amounts, you might be able to make it work by setting it up as a Price Change rule and setting the discount to respect the minimum price. Then you could set the discount amount on the rule for the higher discount but set the minimum on the price type that should receive the lower discount to the value that would be the result of the lower discount.

For example, if Adult tickets are $40 and Child tickets $30 dollars, and the group discount should be $10 dollars off for Adult tix and $5 off for Child tix, you would set the discount amount on the rule to $10 but set the minimum price on the Child price type to $25, which means that the rule would only be able to take $5 off of Child tickets.

And while this won’t help today, we have added price type mapping to pricing rules in the next release, v14.1, which will allow you set up a single Price Type Change rule that can change Adult tickets to Adult Group and Child tickets Child Group.

  • Kevin - Thanks for the suggestion, and I'll give it a try!  Glad to hear that price type mapping for this is in the works.
