Pricing Rules- % off question.

Quick question for those who have used the % off pricing rule. Will it take the % off each price layer?

Our facility fee is built as a separate pricing layer and I want to make sure that does not take any funds away from that layer.  I have set the minimum price on that layer to be the amount built, and checked the honor minimum price box.

Are there any other changes I should make to ensure the facility fee is not affected?

  • There are two options for excluding a price layer from Price Change pricing rules. The first is to set the rule to Respect Minimum Price and then set the facility fee price layer min price to the same as the default price. This is the option you’ll likely want to go with for percentage based changes so that the total ticket price is used for the discount calculation, but the discount amount is applied only to the ticket price price layer.

You also have the option to exclude price layers from pricing rules by using a layer type with the Exclude From Rules box checked in TR_PRICE_LAYER_TYPE. However when you use this option, the portion of the total ticket price that comes from the exclude layer is also exclude from the discount amount calculation, which means that the percentage discounted from the total ticket price will end up being less than advertised.  Here’s an excerpt from the documentation explaining the difference:

Note: If you are using layered pricing and choose to exclude some of the layers from pricing rules, based on the layer type, percentage discounts will be calculated against the included price layers only, not the total ticket price. For example, a $50 total ticket price consists of a $45 ticket price layer and a $5 fee price layer. The fee layer has been set to be excluded from pricing rules. When a pricing rule with a 10% discount is applied to the ticket, the 10% discount is applied to the $45 ticket price layer alone, reducing it by $4.50 to $40.50. When the $5 fee layer is added back in, the total ticket price will be $45.50, which equals a 9.5% discount on the total ticket price. If you want to calculate the discount against the total ticket price but only apply the discount amount to the ticket price layer, include the fee price layer in pricing rules, but set the rule to respect the minimum price and set the minimum price on the fee layer to be the same as the default price. With these settings, the 10% discount would be calculated against the $50 total ticket price. The resulting discount of $5 would then be deducted in full from the ticket price layer, reducing it to $40, leaving the fee layer at $5, resulting in a new total ticket price of $45.
