NSAN

We're implementing NSAN for our upcoming 17/18 season.  We're all very excited to finally begin scanning tickets! I do however have a healthy fear of the unknown when it comes to scanning.  I would love to know if any of you have any advice you would give us? Anything you wish you would have known when you started out?  Tips and tricks...any documentation that you created for your staff that was especially helpful? We'll be using Motorola MC40's.

  • We switched from wifi to cell service because the wifi in our old theatre just wasn’t reliable, especially when we had many people in the lobby.  We have not had any issues since moving to cell service, and we can also scan out tickets at our offsite venues now.

    I totally agree with Beth! The biggest issue we have regarding scanners is the connectivity, so make sure to dedicate a wifi to the scanners only, and setup the access points very close to the usher/interance. We also noticed that the connection is weaker when many people are in the room. So we also needed to take this into account. 

    But NScan itself is very easy to install and use!

    Do you have documentation/steps on how you setup the N-SCANs to work on the mobile network offsite? I found some steps on another older thread, but I'm wondering if there is a more up-to-date solution to accessing N-Scan URL from outside the domain. This is the steps from the 2010 thread:

     

    1. Create a public IP address / web site for the N-Scan web service. This usually involves some work with your internet service provider. You don't actually need a name (like nscan.rutheckerthall.org) though it helps sometimes. You do need at least a public facing IP address for the scanners to use that will take them to the N-Scan web service on your Gateway server.
    2. Attach the scanners to a wireless access point at the remote location. This can be a public wireless point or a private access point that you take to the location. For example, if you are at a hotel, these typically have wireless in their conference areas. You would connect each of the scanners to the hotel's wireless network and make sure you get to the internet.
    3. Update N-Scan in the Setup / Admin area for the URL value. Change this value to the IP Address or web site name created in step 1 (leave the ticketservices.asmx value at the end, just replace the internal IP address with the external address or name).

    This should work. The only other thing you might need to do as part of the setup is open up your firewall to allow traffic to the N-Scan Web Service from the remote locations IP address range. This will secure the service to only allow traffic from the location you are working.
