Proof of Age for Purchase: What do you require?

Hello Tessiturians!

We're launching a young professionals subscription we're a bit hung up on how to require proof of age (must be 40 and under) and of course, not offend anyone along with complying with any laws.

Our requirements work well for students but this one has us stumped. I'm wondering what others might be doing with a similar offer?

Additionally, how do you confirm online sales?  We are considering not offering it through TNEW, yet this group of buyers does so almost exclusively online!

Many thanks for your wisdom!

  • Hi Michelle,

Not sure if this will work for you but we have a TNEW, pre-cart customization that asks patrons for their birthdate. Feel free to contact me off line if you want more info.

  • We have the Bold Card, 6 tickets for $100 and they can use the tickets however they want through the season.  All of the information is on our website, but they do have to call to order the card & tickets.  The mode of sale is set to will call and we make sure our volunteers check their ID before handing the tickets over.  So far we havent had much problems with it and no kick back about not allowing orders online.

  • Why not just make that price type hold at box office only and have your box office staff check birthdate when they collect?

  • I would setup a specific pricetype and when the pricetype/MOS is used on TNEW, create a validate point where they enter a birthdate to quick check the validity. If failed delete the contents of the cart and if it passed add an order note and CSI so the box office associate can check the age when they pick up the order.

  • Everyone, thank you!

Excellent ideas and info!  We tend to get complaints when we force will call though it generally comes from our older patrons.  I like the idea of having to add a birthdate as well.
