Buy one donate one

Hello there,

We are currently thinking about ways that we could implement a scheme using Tessitura to offer people the chance to 'donate' a ticket to someone less fortunate than themselves when purchasing their own tickets for a performance.

I wondered if anyone in the community was already doing this and could tell me how you've implemented it inside Tessitura?

I'm wondering whether we have people 'donate' the ticket and it goes into a contribution fund and is then allocated later, or whether people actually purchase the physical ticket and we hold it and give it away when someone asks if we have any free tickets available.

Any insight would be greatfully received!

Thanks,
James

  • It seems like a contribution fund would be the better way to go so you don't end up having people purchase more "donated" tickets than are requested by patrons in need. You could set up a Payment Method for the Box Office to use when patrons request donated tickets that would debit the GL for the contribution fund and credit the income GL for the perf.

Doing it this way could also allow patrons who can't afford to donate the full price of a ticket to donate a smaller amount and still support another person receiving a donated ticket.

I love the idea of doing this and look forward to hearing how it works out.
