Hello Tessitura Hive mind!
We operate our main season with two different venues, a main stage that has assigned seats (254 capacity) and a GA house (114 capacity) that does not. We are currently discussing the pros/cons of changing our GA house to assigned seating.
This will involve building a new venue map in Tessitura and will affect all of my subscription rollovers. Apart from that - does anyone have any tips/tricks/thoughts on this? Has anyone done this before?
Thanks!
Joel
Hi there, Joel –
Although I’ve been through this process a couple of times now, there’s not much I have to say, I’m afraid! At the heart of it all, it’s simple enough. You’d need to create a new facility, of course, but that’s a fairly well-trodden route. Ticket design would change, but I’m guessing you’d use the same design as your assigned house. Make sure you involve the Production and FOH departments at all stages to consider things like wayfinding, accessible seating, layout and so on.
The most important thing I’d say is to have a clear think about how you’re going to manage the message to the customer. As you already have assigned seating in one facility, it may be very straightforward, but some may be confused or anxious about the change.
Sorry; this may not be at all what you’re looking for!

Thanks Chris!
It would be a change for our subscribers, but we think they'll like it better. We're planning to send them a one-question survey regarding this matter ASAP to get their feedback (we could be totally wrong about it).
Mostly, I'm trying to plan ahead. in 2 seasons, we're likely to be doing renovations to our Main Stage and moving an entire season's worth of productions into the Studio - so by changing the GA venue now, would be one less change in the next (already crazy) season.
