I am looking at proposing some changes to an aging comp policy. It will have to work across different venues and series and facilitate comps for VIPs/Invited Guests, Staff, Board Members, Partners and other stakeholders.
I wanted to reach out to the network to see if you can share elements of what works/doesn’t work for your organisation/venue.
Do staff work off a yearly allocation?
Do you wait until the day before to arrange staff comps (or closer to the event)?
Do you just have regular staff offers /discounted tix instead of comps?
Do you allow comps for board members/staff members only under special circumstances?
Is it important for staff to connect with the content in this way?
What works for you?
Thanks,
Michael
Hi Michael,
Don Wong, here from Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Cincinnati, Ohio. . Staff are entitled to 2 comps(BSA) per production and 6 discounted tickets excludes best zone and excluding the last weekend of performance(if it's a hot seller or in our smallest venue) available at OnSale. Additional comps available day of show only walk up limit 4 and one must be the employee.
Board members pay, it's their duty. When they bring guests to the theatre and a guest witnesses the transaction it sets the GOLD STANDARD. Theatre is worth it!
Box Office staff are encouraged to see the show during Previews. If they do, they are paid for their viewing time. After all, they need to know what their selling and talking about, right?
If we have a poor capacities, we will resort to offers to encourage attendance and sales but only on occasion.
Best of luck,
Don Wong
