Adding a fee to gift certificate payment method

Hello all,

Does anyone have experience with selling gift certificates online, and automatically adding a Processing/Mailing Fee?  We are preparing to start a holiday promotion based around gift card sales, and we plan to use the out of the box functionality for using the gift certificate payment method in Tessitura.  However, a rule-based fee can not be built based on payment method.  I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a way (either via customization or their own work) to add a fee to gift certificate sales online, and might be willing to share what they've come up with.

Thanks in advance!

Brendan

  • Hi Brendan,

You can actually do this through a rule based fee using shipping methods.

    Step-by-step guide

Create a gift certificate shipping method:

    1. create a row in TR_Order_Ship_Method
      1. Description: Gift Certificate Postage
      2. Pah Ind: unchecked
      3. Require Address: Checked
      4. Inactive: unchecked
    2. Create an alias of the shipping method if you want the description to display differently online when patrons see it in LTR_TNEW_Alias_Shipping_Method
      1. Organization: select the organization specified in LTR_TN_Express_Web_Defaults
      2. Shipping Method: Gift Certificate Postage
      3. Alias: enter the description of the shipping method you want patrons to see online, for example "Postage for Gift Certificates - 1.50 Fee"
    3. Add a row in TX_MOS_Ship_Method for all the modes of sale that should have access to your Gift Certificate Postage shipping method.
    4.  Add a row to LTR_TNEW_Dyn_Shipping_Method so that the "Gift Certificate Postage Shipping Method" is the only shipping method available for gift certificate purchases

    Please Note

The new shipping method will appear on all orders available to the MOS you specified in step 2. You can add additional rows to LTR_TNEW_Dyn_Shipping_Method for each production, package and/or price type for your other shipping methods so that the new shipping method doesn't appear for those other order types.

Create a Rule Based fee for your new shipping method

    1. Click GoTo tab and select Ticketing Setup
    2. Under Ticketing Setup Tab select "Fees"
    3. Under Fee Maintenance tab, click "Add" button in bottom left hand corner
    4. Enter Fee details below is an example:
      1. Fee Description: Gift Cert Postage Fee
      2. Ticketing Season: Ticketing Season
      3. Fiscal Year: 20XX
      4. Business Unit:  if applicable
      5. General Ledger No: select GL you want this to apply to
      6. Campaign: Ticketing XXXX
      7. Designation: Default TR_Desig_Code
      8. Fee Category: Handling Fee
      9. Fee Type: Rule-Based
      10. Fee Frequency: Order Level
      11. Fee Amount: 1.50
      12. skip entries until User Can Edit Amount: Never
    5. Click "Save"
    6. Click "Fee Rules" tab
    7. Mode of Sale: Web MOS (your web modes of sale that will be purchasing gift certificates) - or All Modes of Sale if the fee should be applied to orders regardless of the Mode of Sale used.
    8. Price Type: (all price types)
    9. Delivery Method: Gift Certificate Postage
    10. Transaction Type: Sale
    11. Click Save

  • Hi Melissa,

Is it possible to set this up so that the Postage Fee is only added if the customer wants their GV mailed? I don't think there's any way except for CSIs for them to indicate that - so I doubt it? I did see if I could sell two types of GVs online - one for online delivery and one for posted, but I don't think this is possible.

    Thanks in advance,

    Charlotte
