Pricing Rules Basically Basic

Hi all,

So...my brain is finally learning pricing rules. I know, I'm late to the game. So...I'm trying to set up a rule that says for every 1 adult ticket, make up to 4 tickets child price while keeping the one adult ticket price. I'm using a BOGO rule but no matter how I set the criteria the return results are not what I'm looking for. I have set up a one for one (one adult/one child), but I can't seem to figure out a way to make the rule do what I want.

I seem to recall sitting on a session at TLCC Orlando 2 with Kevin Sheehan going over all the types of rules and how to use them but it could have been a T-Cast instead. My brain seems to mashing everything Tessi related into one slip stream.

Help me Tessiturians. You're my only hope.

  • Once again Kevin Sheehan and his sage advice save the day. This was exactly what I was trying to wrap my head around but just could not make it understand.

As always Mr. Sheehan, thank you. :)

  • Hi Christopher,

With a Buy One Get One Rule, you set up a ratio of seats, like for every 2 seats added at the Adult price, change 1 to the Child price. That means if you add 2 Adult seats, the rule will be triggered changing it to 1 Adult and 1 Child. If you add another Adult seat, nothing will change you’ll now have 2 Adults and 1 Child. If you add a 4th seat at Adult, the rule will change one more to Child so you will now have 2 Adult and 2 Child.

You might be able to accomplish the scenario you describe with four different BOGO rules with three different ratios: 5 change 4, 4 change 3, 3 change 2, and 2 change 1. Then In your rule set rank the rules 5 change 4 rule at the top and then move down with 2 change 1 ranked lowest.

You might also want to take a look at the Amy Catanzaro’s recipe in the Pricing Rules Recipes presentation from this year’s conference, where she describes how they are using a Multiple Price Type rule to assure that at least 1 adult ticket is in the cart before someone can receive a Youth price.
