Capping Tickets Available with Allocation Codes?

Hi all,

We'd like to limit the number of comps to 1,000 total for an upcoming general admission performance and have thought to do this with allocation codes.  The question that we have about this method is will Tessitura provide some sort of notification when the 1,000 tickets have been claimed?  Or will our guest services associates need to consistently consult the seat map throughout the day, then stop selling tickets at the comp price type after the limit has been reached?

Any information about the above, or possible alternatives would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Joshua

  • Hi Joshua,

There is no built in notification so yes, they will need to monitor.

  • Hi Michele,

Thanks for the message.  Hopefully there is a method to achieve the above!

    Hi Joshua,

There isn't a notification with allocations, but if you want to be sure not to oversell your comps, you could use two Modes of Sale. So, MOS 1 would have access to your comp allocation of 1000 tickets, but not the unassigned allocation of all the standard seats. MOS 2 would not have access to your comp allocation  or price type. Then, when the 1000 tickets are gone, if someone tries to use MOS 1, there won't be any tickets available to purchase and they'll have to change MOS and use a different price type.

Another possibility would be  to use 2 price zones. One would have 1000 seats of your facility assigned, the other all the rest. Then, in your pricing set-up you could make the comp price type only available in zone 1 and disable it in zone 2. All your other price types would be disabled in zone 1 and enabled in zone 2.

    Hope that helps,

    Dorothy

  • Hi Dorothy,

Thanks so much for your suggestions.  We'll begin with the first alternative you posed and work from there.  Really appreciative of your insights.

    All the best,
