Helpful TNEW How-To's for Patrons

Hi all-

We are a few weeks away from launching our TNEW site and announcing this change to all of our patrons. As the TNEW site will operate very differently from our current custom site, we are considering making some instructional videos/slides/how-to's to include in our announcement to our patrons. These would be for basic items like building a package, resetting your password, etc. and would include step by step instructions for patrons on how to do these items on the new site.

Has anyone utilized tools like this in launching their new TNEW site? Any cute ideas for how to convey this new info to patrons in a fun and easy-to-understand way?

Thanks!
Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

We did something like that at the Perot Museum last year. We went live on Tessitura/TNEW for summer camp registration (a popular item with members) a few months before going live for everything else, so we set up TNEW with very camp-specific content (and customizations), and made the video below and sent it to members. (The "set your password" path is actually the Forgot Password path – we'd converted over members' accounts, so they only needed to set a password.)

When we went live for everything in June, we removed the camp-specific copy, and updated the login page to say simply "To better serve you, we have changed our online ordering system! Please log in with the email address on your account. If you have bought camps recently, you can use the login you used for camps" – something like that.

If you have a Mac handy, I believe the latest versions of QuickTime let you take screen video captures.

  • No, but I *really* wish I’d thought of that/told the powers that be to wait for me to do that when we relaunched last year!

We had some basic info that we sent out in an e-newsletter, tried to be friendly in our messaging on the site, and we really prepped box office and made sure they were comfortable with the site before go-live.

    Good luck on the launch!

    Kathleen

  • If you are looking for an excellent example of making something that could be boaring fun.

The best instructional video I have ever seen is the Virgin America in flight safety video.

It gets the message across but in a really great way.

Thanks again everyone for your help.

We successfully upgraded to v12.5.1 and launched our TNEW site yesterday (yay)! Here is the email we sent to all patrons alerting them of the change and directing them on how to proceed.

You'll see that we included a tutorial video in the email, which can also be found here
