Ticket Limits

Hello all,

I can't remember if there is a way to accomplish the following scenario:

We have a "College Night" coming up and want to give 500 comp tickets away, and all tickets thereafter will be at the student price.

All ticket transactions will be done by box office - no web

So my question has to do with tessitura capability. Is there a way to make a pricetype only allow 500 tickets to a given performance?

I know 9.0 has some new ticket limit functionality so before I dig through the whole release notes, I am hoping someone might know the answer. I was thinking that the new functionality had to do with per order restrictions and not what I am trying to do.

I could probably create an allocation, but I don't want to create a new MOS just for this.

Let me know your ideas.

Thanks Tessiturians!

  • I remember hearing someone at the conference mention doing this. I think the workaround involved a scheduled job that runs I forget how often, maybe every five minutes? That checks how many tickets have been sold at the price type in question for the performance in question, and if it's higher than the desired amount it updates the end date on the pricetype so it can't be used anymore and changes the start date on the desired new pricetype so it becomes available. It wouldn't be perfect since I suppose in the five minutes since the 500th ticket you could go over, but that sort of method would probably get you pretty close.

Something else that comes to mind is possibly an automated update to the sales notes that would say how many tickets had been sold at that pricetype and make the note required. That could force the box office to look and know the current tally.

  • Doing something like this was my first guess, but I thought maybe there was a built in feature with the new release that did this.

    Thanks for the reply,
