Sitting vs Standing Policy

Hi All,

We are a Performing Arts Venue that hosts everything from Broadway performances and concerts to lectures and graduations. I was wondering if other venues had issues during concerts where some guests want to sit while the concert encourages guests to stand. This causes some discontent and we are looking to possibly streamline a policy regarding it.

Any thoughts on this matter?

Thank You,

  • Hey Lauren,

I am not sure you can require people to stand without running afoul of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).  Also - there are people who have numerous health issues that may not be apparent - i.e. back or leg issues or just elderly who have problems getting out of their seats.  I would encourage you to not go this route if you can possibly avoid it.

    Cheers,

    Susan

  • Hi Susan,

I think we were leaning on a sitting only policy as opposed to a standing only policy. Or trying to see if there were pros and cons to having a standing only section vs a sitting only section in a seated theater. We would not be making standing during a concert a priority, just sitting.
