Hello,
We recently changed an organizational protocol regarding patron records and entering their company name when their address happens to be their business address. According to our box office/USPS resources, the street 2 field is best used for the company name. For example:
Jon Smith
281 Huntington Avenue
Huntington Theatre Company
Boston, MA 02115
This looks SOOOOOO BIZARRE to me, but we agreed to move forward with this way of entering business information into mailing addresses.
Fast forward to last week when we ran our NCOA and the street 2 data for a few of these patrons has been erased and updated. We are still in the process of evaluating as to how many this happened to and it may not be that big of a manual fix, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue.
My solution in the future is to track these addresses with a different address type and filter them from the NCOA, but in the meantime, I'm curious what others are doing? Are you entering the organization name in the street 2 field? Is that recommended?
Thanks!
Tiffany

We have always entered org name data in Street2, with Street1 always used for the actual USPS address line. For display, printing, etc., we sort the data
Street2
Street1
City/State/Zip
(The above is set in the Tessitura client in T_DEFAULTS, field name "ADDRESS_STREET_ORDER")
This order has worked fine for NCOA updates (Streets other than 1 are ignored by these updates, which may be optional, I forget).
