"Pay It Forward" Ticket

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone out there does a "pay it forward" ticket. A rental group is looking to give patrons the option to purchase tickets to give to an unknown person(s) in the future. The eligible performances span multiple weeks and each performance would has a different price. If anyone has any thoughts on this, let me know. Thanks!

  • Hey Gary,

We haven't done that particular type of deal here but I do have one suggestion for you.

You could set up a dummy event and when a patron chooses to purchase a 'pay it forward' ticket you sell them a ticket to that dummy event under a specified, dummy account. As those tickets are then given out to the future unknown person(s) the tickets could be exchanged into the appropriate performances. Even though the available performances have different prices, I'm assuming the original purchaser would be paying some sort of flat amount and that the recipient(s) would not be paying any additional money. If that's the case you could set up a specific price type to be added to all applicable shows for the specified price (or make it an editable price so you can make it match if it will be varied). You could add that fairly quickly using season maintenance.

We do something very similar here for our version of a flex package where customers receive vouchers to redeem throughout the year to the performances of their choice.

    Hope that helps!

  • Hi Beth,

Thanks for the suggestion. That is pretty much how we envisioned it working. Good to know we are on the right track. :)

  • Hi Gary,

This is something we're currently looking at doing here at Cheltenham Festivals, and I'm interested to know whether you went with the above suggestions and how this worked out for you?

    Thanks,

    Emily
