Order Import Utility

Hello -

When one creates a TR_IMPORT_ORDER_SET rule, where do you place the import file for the filepath? Does it have to be a specific location such that the filepath is the same for each file?

I hope I asked this correctly and thank you for any support.

  • No, but you can save an Excel (xlsx) file as a tab-delimited file (.txt) when you are ready to import.  You can also work with tab-delimited files directly in Excel without converting.

Can the file to be imported be an excel file?

The filepath in the Import Set is the folder which will be used to gather any available files for import during an import run (review or actual).  Any files with a .TXT extension will be considered for import.  Once a file has been imported (not in review mode), it is marked by filename in the db for the import set and not considered for import again.

As for the format file, it can be located anywhere, but preferably not in the same folder as the import file(s).  In my examples, I typically add a “/FormatFile” folder path next to or inside the import folder path.

  • One gotcha to be aware of in this situation -- if you have any fields, like address, that contain commas (Think 102 Main Street, Apt. 2 as a single address line), Excel likes to save the data to CSV encapsulated in quotes. The import utility will treat these quotes as part of the data, so you may end up with a bunch of addresses in Tessi that appear in quotes.

That's been my experience at least -- there may be workarounds. Perhaps the order import utility should be catching quote encapsulation?
