Have you considered doing this through Reports?  

This does not happen on a regular basis at our organization but in the past when I have needed to give staff access to view batches I have used a combination of 2 reports.  I created a copy of the Standard Batch Detail report that allows users to "reprint" a batch report if needed using batch # as parameter.  The user runs the standard Batch Payment Total Listing which gives them a listing of batch numbers for a certain batch type by date range.  They then run the Batch Detail report for whichever batch they want to view.  If this were something we did more frequently I would probably modify the Batch Detail Report slightly so it could be run by date range.
