Subsription best practice

Hi everyone

We are new to Tessitura here in Denmark and we are looking for directions on the best practice for subscriptions in Tessitura.

At the moment we have two kinds:

Fixed packages that would be similar to the superpackages in Tessitura. Meaning that we have multiple (usually 8) performances on different venues in one package. The subscriber has the same seats every year, sometimes in different pricegroups depending on the venue. We choose the performances and a limited number of dates for them to choose from.

These subscribers are getting a discount on their tickets and on the rest of the tickets throughout the season and a lot of other offers only connected to subsribers of these packages. At the moment we have 29 different packages.

These customers are very important to us, and we would like to give them the best possible treatment, and an important part of this is giving them an easy way to book online. Most of these customers are not very familiar with the internet, but still they are keen on using this option.

We also have a non fixed package. The customers who choose this package must pick and choose at least 6 performances in the season. They can choose various numbers of seats on the different performances.  It is possible to pick this kind of subscription throughout the year. These customers are also getting a discount on the rest of the performances in this season.

Sorry for the very long text, the question we are asking is whether it makes sense to continue making our subscriptions in this way or you would recommend us rethinking the way we are doing subscription?

Thank you very much.

Kind regards Eva

  • Hello Eva,

First and foremost, welcome to Tessitura Network!

It sounds like you do subscription packaging pretty much like most organizations. Tessitura has the capability of offering both package types. You shouldn’t have to change your business practices in offering subscriptions at all. You might have to tweak how you do what you do, but Tessitura should be able to handle subscription sales. I’m sure you’ve read all the documentation provided on the network website in regards to package building. If not, I would recommend using that documentation as well as it really does provide some great core basics on package planning and building which can be found here. Super packages do require a little bit more work to build as you still have to build the sub packages and if I recall, all the venues have to be the same for a super package (so you may not be able to use the super package function in Tessitura if you have multiple venues in one subscription series). My suggestion would be to use the Fixed Seat Packages for your subscribers who get the same seats. For the non-fixed package you offer, I would suggest using the Flex Packages. That is more in line with what you are offering in that package in that, there is a minimum number of performances required to be selected to get the package benefits (like a create your own package).

Packaging is always the part requiring most planning in Tessitura season builds. It sounds like you are definitely going in the right direction.

  • Hi Eva!

Christopher is right. Tessitura should be able to handle your subscription needs. I did want to mention that super packages can work across multiple venues. We currently have a super pack that has 3 concerts in a reserved seating venue and 5 concerts in a different general admission venue. We've never had a problem with it but you want to make sure you read the documentation. You may choose to set it up in your TEST environment first to make sure you've got it figured out.

If you're concerned about how it will work on the website, you'd want to speak with your web developer or the TNEW staff (if that's what you're using) and they should be able to walk you through the options.

Good luck and welcome to Tessitura!
