adding 'tbd' zones

Hi Gang:
I'm looking at adding a couple of extra zones on our season map.  The purpose of these zones would be to allow for some flexibility to add new prices/zones for specific uses during the season (either a 'premium' zone for aisle seats or a flexible zone for specific prices scattered about the house).

As I see it, the zones would largely be 'inactive' during the build, season rollover, and only activated and assigned pricing during the season.

I'm assuming others are doing this, and wanted to know your experience, warnings, tips, etc.

Thanks in advance for any information you might be able to pass along.

Happy Monday, folks!

Kindly,

mark

  • Hi Mark -

We have been using "flex" zones in all our zone maps for several years.  It has been extremely helpful in our ability to be nimble with pricing.  We generally have one or two pre-named flex zones (e.g. VIP) and several that we just call Flex and rename as needed when adding them to the shows.

    Things to remember:

    1. When you make one of the flex zones active it is active on all shows that share that zone map.  This may mean that you need to go into shows to disable/enable the zones once you have applied them to the appropriate seats. (We have to disable the zone in shows where it isn't applied to seats to keep it from showing up on the best seating list of zones on our website.)

    2. Always double check what effect these new zones have on your website.  I know some organizations connect their SYOS to their zone map and therefore inserting new zones means they have to talk to their web developer to take them into account.

    3. If the shows are included in a fixed package, the new zones will not visibly roll up on the composite map.  When you seat an order in one of these zones, it will reflect the correct price. However, before it is seated it is referencing the base map which is based on the original build, so it will reflect the original prices.

    4. Check any custom reports to make sure you are still accounting for all your sales.

I'm happy to chat anytime about our experiences with this.
