ADA seats online?

Is anyone selling ADA seats (either wheelchair accessible, sign interpreted, caption seats, etc.) online?

  • We don't sell wheelchair online, but we do sell ASL and captioning seats online, using a combination of MOS, allocations, and offers.......I'd be happy to share more offline if you want more info (or I can share here if anybody else out there is interested).

At the conference, Christopher Jones, Web Architect, National Theatre, presented on this.  Here is a link to the description which includes a link to the presentation.  It was very informative.

    Hope that helps!

  • Here's how we do it:

We set up a distinct web MOS for each group that we want to have access to particular seats/performances.  Because we're using allocations for these, we have to have separate Modes of Sale because each MOS need access to different allocations (if we did these all in one MOS, both our Captioning & ASL folks would not only have access to their own seats & performances, but the other groups seats & performances, as well, which is confusing).

Within each web MOS, we allocate only the specific seats and performances that are available (e.g., just the Captioned performances, and only the section of seats from which the Captioned screen is viewable).  On the flip side, we make those seats unavailable to most other MOS - so our box office can't sell them accidentally, and they can't be purchased randomly by anyone online.  There are certain MOS that still have these seats available (subscriber exchanges, for example), but we're very specific about which MOS we give the access to.

We then add an offer to the specialized web MOS, which, when used as a promo code when logging in, or by clicking on a link which has the promo code embedded, will give the patron access to those performances and seats *only*, which ensures they can only buy for a captioned (or ASL) performance, and wherever their seats are, they'll be within the captioned-viewing (or ASL) section.

We've been selling ASL tickets online for a couple of years; captioned tickets we've just started recently.  Although we haven't received a huge amount of traffic from either, we still think it's an invaluable tool for patrons, and hope to start marketing the Captioned option more as we get into our season.

If you want to try this out to see what it looks like on our site, you can click on the following link to see some captioned performances:  www.seattlerep.org/promo/open  Note that we only have captioned performances for 4 of the shows, so I'd recommend looking at 39 Steps or Equivocation.......

    Hope that helps!
