Timed-Entry ticket builds for G/A Exhibitions

We are currently weighing up our options for how to approach a ticket build for a timed-entry general admission exhibition that runs for around five to six months.

In the past, we've always built timed-entry exhibitions as single day performances, and used Price Zones to separate out each entry time. There was some simplicity to be gained from this approach - both in the product catalog and for reporting purposes, grouping all the entry times into a single day.

This time around, we're exploring the idea of building each entry time as a stand-alone general admission performance. There are a few benefits we think this will give us: in TNEW, each entry time will drop off correctly after it has elapsed, and we'll likely use the Calendar in TNEW with keyword filtering so that entry time selection is a smooth experience. Importantly though, this process should avoid the time-consuming facility build process we've conducted in the past for each exhibition's specific entry time requirements.

Does anyone here have any experience in building timed-entry exhibitions for other orgs? We're very keen to hear if others have taken the separate performance approach and if there are any troublesome issues that came up along the way.

    Hi,

The Science Museum uses the price zones for special exhibits, which typically admit at 15 minute intervals throughout the day, we didn’t want to be managing up to 48 special exhibit performances per day (we do set up our 6-12 hourly Omnitheater films as separate performances throughout the day). We usually are able to reuse the same facility, and so don’t have the hassles of building new facilities for each exhibit. We’re also not on T-New, our coding indicates sold out or past times.

  • Thanks Ray, that's helpful and good to know. We tend to use 30 minute intervals, and that's a good point about the sheer number of performances you would have the manage going for the separate performances approach.

It's looking like we will continue with the Price Zones approach for this build, but might explore our options again in the future.

    Cheers,

    Andrew.
