Indicating non donors

We are currently on a bit of a fundraising drive, with box office staff asking regularly if customers would like to make a donation to the theatre. One thing that has been fed back by the staff is how much they would like a 'one click' solution to simply indicate that a constituent had been asked if they would like to make a donation, but that they had declined the opportunity on this occasion.

In an ideal world this would be a solution which lived in the ticketing module, 'flagged' the constituent header or flex header automatically and then expired the 'flag' automatically after a predetermined length of time. This would assist greatly when considering which customers we should consider asking to add a donation to their ticket purchase and when.

Is what we are looking for a possibility? Has anyone implemented something along these lines and if so how?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

  • Hey Paul,

We don't have anything like that here but I'm wondering if you could implement what you'd like using automated constituencies.

This is my initial (and untested!) thought. It may work or it may not... Or perhaps someone else will have a better suggestion!

Since the box office would like it to start in the ticketing module, you could build a dummy event that they could add as a lineitem to their order when they ask and are declined.
Then make a dynamic list for people that have that performance added; you can restrict by order date to help get only the current constituents that declined.
Then schedule the Manage Constituencies report to run nightly (after your nightly ticket history procedure has run) making sure you put a relative end date in the parameters.

It won't be an immediate flag so if someone calls twice in one day they may get asked a second time. But otherwise I think it may work. The constituency will show up in the header and will expire after a predetermined amount of time!

Hope that helps at least a bit. Good luck!

    Hi Paul

A slight variation on Beth's suggestion would be to use one of the Order Custom fields to mark the donation decline on the order, then use that to generate the constituency. Also, if you have the skills inhouse, you could add a special graphic to your constituent header, based on that constituency, to make it more obvious to the user that the customer has been asked and declined.
