InfoMaker troubles

Hi all,

I'm just coming back from some significant time away from the office (I must have severely angered the Karma bug or something....) and am jumping right into our major annual season build. I'm having particular trouble with our subscription renewal form and am looking for some help as my brain is still a little foggy and I'm far from an InfoMaker guru at the best of times.

Our renewal form was custom made by Tess in InfoMaker for our organization last year. It was gorgeous, ran right out of Tess and we loved it dearly. Now that I'm working on making appropriate changes to it for our next season I'm having a few issues.

1) When we upgraded to IM 12.1 I migrated our custom reports as described in the Tess upgrade document. When I select the renewal form pbl and select Edit I get a Database Profiles window that I've never encountered before. I honestly don't know what to do with it! If I highlight any of the options the New option appears but the Connect option doesn't.

I know that I can hit the close button a few times and then it will load the report design but I feel like I actually need to do something with this profile window. What do I need to do? Is it a one time thing or do I need to do it every time?

2) I can't generate the form in Tessitura. I've checked the path in T_DEFAULTS. When I try reprinting one of last year's forms from Subscription Summary it displays an almost blank page. It seems to be the right size of page (legal instead of letter) and it has one rectangular box (that is part of the actual form) but everything else is blank.

I'm not sure at this point if the problem is with InfoMaker or Tessitura or if it has something to do with either the IM upgrade to 12.1 or the Tess upgrade to V11. Maybe it has something to do with that Database Profile box I keep skipping or the code behind the report doesn't play nice with V11.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated at this point should you have any advice for me.

Thanks!

  • Infomaker needs to be connected to the database in order to open the datawindow.  The database profile window that you mention skipping is indeed the issue.  You’ll need to add a Database Profile under OLE Microsoft OLE DB section.

Fill in the connection with the proper server and elevated user credentials.  Then under Extended Properties add “database=impresario”.  If you don’t see OLE Microsoft OLE DB as a section in the Database Profiles window, you’ll need to reinstall Infomaker 12 (and the update) and add MS OLE DB as a provider during the setup process.

The database connection in Infomaker is only used by Infomaker and doesn’t get used by the Tessitura client.  The migration may not be passing correctly because InfoMaker uses the DB Connection to verify SQL and table relationships within the datawindow objects.

  • Thanks Ryan.

I have just tried setting up the db profile and it wasn't giving me quite what I was expecting. I do have OLE Microsoft OLE DB in the Database Profiles window. But under the Provider drop down I didn't have MS OLE DB as an option. However, I did have SQLOLEDB and if I selected that one all of my server options under the Data Source drop down.

But with those options selected I received an error when trying to preview the report stating that it can't find the local procedure for the report.

Do you think the problem now is that I don't have the proper Provider? If so, is that solved by a re-install or is there another way?

    Thanks again,

    Beth

  • You are indeed looking at the correct options (sorry for not being explicit as I do understand the confusion).  The Database Interface should be OLE Microsoft OLE DB.

For the Profile, enter any name you like (TessituraDB, e.g.) and choose SQLOLEDB as your provider.  The data source should be your SQL Server.  Enter a valid SQL login/password.  In Extended Properties enter "database=impresario" (without quotes).  This should be enough to connect.   Click OK and look at the Database Profile entered.

If the Profile doesn't have a green checkbox in the bottom right corner, right click and select "Connect" or "Reconnect".  If you have a successful connection, you should be able to open the tree below the profile to view Driver Information, Metadata Types, Procedures & Functions, Tables, and Views. If you see a reduced list of Procedures and Functions, for instance, or none at all, your login may not have the proper level of security.

The only real rights that the database user needs is to the application role 'impusers'.

Hope that clears it up.  From the sounds of it, you have the proper providers and interfaces, and shouldn't need to reinstall.  Beyond that, I'm not sure without further information what may be lacking.

    Best,

    Ryan
