Hello all.
One of our users noticed that she loses the Tools menu from the toolbar at the top of the screen (it goes File, GoTo Constituents, Tools, Window, Help) after she runs a specific SSRS report. In investigating it, I found that it happens for any SSRS report.
We click the "Reports and Utilities" button and select our report, then enter the parameters. The toolbar is fine up to this point (though the Constituents option drops off the list after clicking "Reports and Utilities"). But when we hit OK to run the report, Tools is replaced with a new menu heading, Reports. And that's fine because it has to do with navigating within the report. But when we close the report... we don't get the Tools heading back, it stays Reports. I've tried moving around withing Tessitura to all the other areas, but nothing brings back the Tools menu - it's gone until we exit and log back in (or File -> ReLogin). I asked around and one of our other admins, Rebecca, came across this issue earlier today and was able to get the Tools menu to come back by opening and closing a lot of different sections, but I haven't been able to do it myself.
This issue doesn't come up when opening an InfoMaker report - both the Reports and Tools menus appear in the toolbar while an InfoMaker report is open, and then the Reports heading goes away when it's closed. (I'm not advocating for InfoMaker, just pointing out an interesting tidbit!)
Has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions? It seems like an issue of refreshing something to let it know that we're not looking at a report anymore... but I don't know how to do that.
Thanks very much!
Nathan
Nathan, I wanted to chime in here to provide some additional information about this problem.
In v11, if in Tools>Preferences "Maximize Windows" is checked, when an SSRS report is run in the client, the "Tools" menu item is replaced by the "Reports" menu item that enables you to scroll through the report, save the results to a list, etc. However, when the report is closed, the "Reports" menu remains in place and the "Tools" menu is no longer available requiring you to re-login to the client to restore the "Tools" menu.
If in Tools>Preferences the "Maximize Windows" is unchecked, when an SSRS report is run in the client, the "Tools" menu is not replaced by the "Reports" menu item. The positive thing here is that the "Tools" menu item remains accessible, but the options in the "Reports" menu are not available for use.
This is a bit of a Catch-22 situation that Development is investigating.

Thank you all for the quick responses!
I followed the suggestion that Maximize Windows be un-checked, and that's working fine. I'll pass along word.
Thanks again!

Each 'User Group' you are in can store different settings in Tools/Preferences - see if the admins have 'Maximize Windows' off, and other groups have 'Maximize Windows' on - that is consistent with our findings. Once you've unchecked it for a user/usergroup combination, it should help.

Bob,
Thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated. I'll check in with the user who reported this - it's possible that the trade-offs are worth it. Most of the options from the Reports menu are available at the top of the SSRS report, so losing the Reports menu might not be so bad.
We have a monthly meeting with representatives from our member organizations - I'll bring up this situation and the catch-22 work-around and leave it to the users to decide until development is able to work out a permanent fix.
I have to say, I'm thrilled with the response I've received from the community. Thanks everyone!
Speaking of the Reports menu... another user asked about keyboard shortcuts for moving to the next page of an SSRS report (rather than having to scroll to the top of the page to click the arrows), and I was testing out using the Next Page from the Reports menu, but it doesn't seem to work for me.
I have the Maximize Windows option checked in this session so the Reports menu will show when I run an SSRS report. Using Alt-R and then Alt-N to trigger the Next Page doesn't do anything; nor does clicking the Reports menu and selecting Next Page. In fact, the only option that does anything for me is Save As List. Is anyone else having this issue?
Thanks.
Hi Nathan,
When running an SSRS report the reports menu options do not work for me either. I have to use the Export functionality at the top of the report page (to the right of the page direction arrows)
