SSRS files - Can I retrieve them from the deployed versions?

Hi all,

It appears as though someone has either moved or deleted our SSRS project files (Eeeekk!!)

The reports still run because they were all deployed etc. however if I need to make changes and redeploy I’m outta luck unless I want to re-do them, which I don’t.

Something tells me if they are still running then they must be accessible somehow, somewhere…

Does anyone know how I might retrieve these files from the deployed versions?

Thanks as always for your help!

  • If you log into the Report Manager (SSRS site, most often http://[ServerName]/Reports) as an administrator of the Report Server (the name of the role in SSRS is “Content Manager”) ,you should be able to export reports directly.  Log in using Internet Explorer, navigate to the report folder(s), open the context menu for a particular report (click the little down arrow that appears when you mouseover) and select “Download” from the menu.  You will download the RDL for the report.  You can easily import these reports into a new project/solution.

You can also export the datasource as well.

    That’s the easiest manual way.

There are other tools for doing things like this en masse (downloading the whole report server to a project file or a file folder).  Check out RSS Scripter, which has been floating around for a while:
