My users tell me that when they export a list as an Excel document, Tessitura saves it as a .xls file. But Word 2007 won’t let them use the .xls as a source document. If they re-save the document as an xlsx, then they’re fine. Has anyone else run into this, and is there any way around it besides having to open and re-save the Excel document in 2007?

My gut says try saving as a CSV instead of as Excel. Tessitura’s Excel output is in a legacy file type and my guess would be that Excel 2007 doesn’t like backwards compatibility for mail merges.

Once you have the original merge set-up it might be easiest to merge directly out of Tessitura rather than saving to excel first.
