Re-installing Boca ticket printers

I have trouble when I swap or replace ticket printers.  The computer doesn’t seem to recognize the new one properly.  It looks good in devices/printers, but nothing prints from Tessitura.  The print queue then shows a document in an error state.  It seems you used be able to remove the printer, then when you connected a new one Windows would take you through the add printer routine.  Now it seems to just use the same name it used to have but it doesn’t work.  Something must be left over from the old printer and I cannot figure it out.  Anyone have a clue how to remove an old ticket printer and install a new one.  (Windows 7, and using USB connection)

Thanks!

Ah yes, I see.  We have not had to install the USB on Windows 7 yet…we were having to do that on Windows XP.

But here are a couple of suggestions I found online:

Step 1: Check the following setting:

    1.    Click Start -> Devices and Printers.

    2.    Right click on the printer -> Select Printer properties.

    3.    Under the  Ports tab -> Clear the Enable bidirectional support check box.

Step 2:  You may also try the following work around:

    1.     Open Printers by clicking the Start button, Devices and Printers

    2.     Click Add a printer.

    3.     In the Add Printer wizard, click Add a local printer.

    4.     Click Create a new port. Make sure Local Port is selected in the list, and then click Next.

    5.     In the Port Name dialog box, type \\computer name\printer name, and then click OK.

    6.     Complete the rest of the wizard, and then click Finish.

We have had the same trouble with BOCAs on USB.  I have ended up creating a new USB port in Windows and installing he BOCA to that new port and that seems to solve it.  We also follow the practice now of shutting the computer off before disconnecting a BOCA attached with USB, and that seems to prevent the issue from happening in the first place.
