Boca problem (infuriatingly intermittent)

Hi folks

We're having a slightly maddening problem with printing orders from our Lemur printers ( 2 of - same problem)

I've posted this ticket to boca, but i thought you lot might have some helpful suggestions as well. It doesn't sound like any of the issues that I can see on earlier threads.

We connect to Tessitura via a Win2003 Terminal Server, using plain RDP across a vpn. PC OS is Vista.

This issue has been occurring for some time with the older printer. We have just bought a new Lemur, and the problem is occurring with this printer also. We have no other boca printers to test against.

When we print an order, sometimes not all tix are printed - the printer stops after (typically, but not always) approx 10 tix. User presses test ticket button, printed tix feed out correctly, user returns to order, which shows all tix printed, selects the unprinted tix for re-print. They print without problems.

This may happen frequently, or hardly at all, on any particular day. We can see no relationship with the specific ticket designs being used (mostly the same).

Anecdotally, it is less likely if the printer has recently been switched off and on.

I note that on the boca site, it is recommended that FGL46 "Ethernet users should update to at least G34". One of the printers is only at G18, although the other is at G52 - I've asked boca for  updated firmware to apply to the earlier printer, although obviously this is unlikely to be related to the problem.

Since the problem appears on both printers, I am thinking that it probably relates to networking issues rather than a printer issue, But on the other hand, the fact that it seems to be minimised by cycling the printer suggests otherwise - perhaps an interaction? - Is a buffer overloading and the message to the pc to pause sending not getting transmitted correctly?

Anybody have any ideas about where I might start looking?

TIA
