Credit server running as a VM problems

We've been running the Tessitura Credit card server & Transcend front end on a virtual server. The system has 4GB of ram and dual core processors. Nothing else runs on the VM. OS: Windows 2008 SP2 X86

We've been experiencing random lock ups on the system. You can ping the system from the network but you can't log in, all resources are completely tied up. And it stops processing credit cards.

And we get the following message:

An I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverably. The Registry could not flush hive (file): '\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE'.

And that implies that the virtual machine is in a low system resource condition

How much resource does the Tessitura Credit card use? I've talked to Transcend and according to them the front end isn't resource heavy.

  • Just to share our experience, we've been running a CC server with the Tessitura CC service and Transcend client on a VM for four years with no resource issues. Earlier this year we switched from an XP server VM to one running 64-bit Server 2008R2, with just 2GB of RAM, and the new VM has continued to run well.
