Bulk Add Membership

Hello everyone,

I need to add a complimentary membership to a large number of constituent records in a list. I can't seem to find an existing solution for this and I'd really prefer to not make our poor memberships person do this manually - it may cause tears.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Adriana

  • Hi, Adriana:

A couple of years ago I wrote a query to copy data from existing memberships in two membership organizations into one new membership organization. Basically, you set up a temp table to hold the information you need for the new memberships, then set up a cursor to add the memberships records into the TX_CUST_MEMBERSHIP table. It took a bit of time to tailor the process, and there was lots of checking and a few edits needed after the query was run, but I think overall we saved time as opposed to adding a few thousand membership records manually.

A couple of questions: Is your complimentary membership going into an existing membership organization? If so, will you want to see these memberships as renewing existing membership records, if they exist? If this is a new organization with no history, inserting records from a query should be a snap. Otherwise, it’s not so easy.

  • Thanks Lucie. The initial post was about adding new memberships to existing records.

However, in the past few days it has become apparent that we will additionally need to renew existing complimentary memberships.

I was hoping that others have run into this before so that I don't have to utilise too much brain power to write a query from scratch - I'd love to see what you wrote and  also talk about the edits that were required. You can e-mail me at alaw@sydneyoperahouse.com if you'd prefer to take this offline.

    Thanks so much,
