Report server program shutting itself down

We are having a strange issue. About 1/4 of days, at some random time of day but often around 7 AM, the report server program (gsrbatch.exe) shuts itself down. (The server machine is still running fine, it's just the report server program that has stopped running.)

I don't see anything in the Event Log around the time of our latest problem (that doesn't happen other times also) or in the log kept by the report server program.

Anybody have ideas on what to check out?

  • We just went through this as well.  We ended up using an utility called application monitor.  It runs periodically and if the program has stopped itself the program will restart it.

The utility can be found here:

  • We're having the same exact issue here...happens randomly at least once a week, in the morning, and with nothing in the logs.

How does this application monitor app get around the login credentials of the report server?

  • If you put 'Autostart = Yes' at the bottom of the .ini file, it doesn't ask for credentials.

  • Keep in mind that you also have to supply the password in the configuration file in this case or the application startup will fail.
