Sales notes-creativity available?

I don't believe we can apply fonts/colors/etc to text in note fields. At our org we felt a similar need to attract attention to them, however, and in our case we went with differently colored custom alert flags that  appear in the constituent header, e.g. a bad primary postal address causes a red flag to appear, an urgent CSI of a particular type triggers a blue flag, etc.

Is there any way to spice up sales notes with different fonts and/or colors?  We found that notes are not being read despite being made "required" in performance setup.  Some notes are updated through stored procedures and others are entered manually.
