Column Headings on Extractions and .txt extension

I've seen this question posted before with no answer - but is there a way to get column headings on an extraction when you save it to file? It would make things easy when passing data to a mailing house.

Also, the files always come out with no extension, so no program knows how to open them by default. Why is there no .txt extension on the file?

  • Hi Matt,

Sorry, I've only just seen this (and I know that you've already pulled your subscription mailing) but thought I'd respond anyway.

There isn't a way to include the column headings in the output but we have found a work-a-round. Full credit should be given to Lesley Diskin at Opera Australia for this solution.

You can create a row in T_LIST_DECOY_NAMES, which has the name of the column in each column (eg. 'Prefix' in the prefix column). When you pull the extraction, select 'include decoys' and use the segment number that you have assigned to the decoy column row.

Obviously, this only works if you don't use decoys (we don't).

    Cheers,

  • I just realised that my Friday brain meant 'this only works if you don't specify a decoy segment within the extraction', not' this only works if you don't use decoys'.

  • What a genius that Lesley is - I'm totally giving this a try next time.

    Thanks!
