Allow Neg% Opttion on Fees

Hi Gloria,

You can now have a negative fee if you’ve applied that patch.  The documentation just hasn’t been updated to reflect that patch (it will be updated for v11).  I haven’t had a chance to fully research how negative fees work, so unfortunately I can’t help you much more beyond letting you know that negative fees are now possible and that you should test it out to see if you can get it to work the way you want it to.  Hopefully people from some of the organizations who are using negative fees (and led us to add them back in on purpose this time) will chime in with some specifics on what they are doing.

Is anyone using the new (10.0.1) "Allow Neg% " option on fees? This is from the 10.0.0.1 Release Notes:

A bug was identified in v9 which allowed negative percent fees to be applied.  This was fixed as the system was never supposed to allow negative fee amounts.  However, some users relied on this (incorrect) functionality for refunds so a new option has been added to fee setup.  The "Allow Neg %" checkbox will allow percentage based fees to be calculated as a negative amount.  This control is only enabled for percentage based fees and should be used only with careful testing to ensure that the fees are calculated as expected.

I'm not sure how to use this. I'm hoping, though not hopeful, that I could use this to set up a fee to return a tax fee when a ticket is returned. I've researched through this site and documentation and it looks like you cannot have a negative fee. If that is the case, what is the purpose of the above change?
